This position manages and oversees the Safety Management Systems (SMS) across the organization. The position is responsible for developing and managing systems and processes that are focused on implementation, execution, reporting, analysis, and continuous improvement of the safety management systems that includes the System Safety Program Plan (SSPP) for commuter rail under the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and the Agency Safety Plan (ASP) for light rail and bus modes under the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).

Manage the Metro Transit Safety Management System (SMS) Programs
Manage the Risk Analysis and Accident/Injury Reduction Programs for Safety Management Systems
Manage the System Safety Program Plan (SSPP) and Agency Safety Plans (ASPs).
Develop and implement safety training programs for annual Safety Management System compliance.
Chair or manage the various safety committees and joint labor/management labor union relationships.
Ensure safety compliance for all regulatory programs required for Safety Management Systems (Bus and Rail).
Interfaces with Metro Transit department leadership and front-line employees to ensure SMS program compliance and understanding by utilizing safety promotion and proactive safety analysis
Acts as subject matter expert for all Safety Programs, safety regulations, and change management utilizing safety data analysis.
Requirements
Any of the following combinations of progressively responsible experience and education, preferably in system safety engineering, occupational and industrial safety management, risk management, related engineering etc. Experience must include three (3) years of experience in a management, supervisory, or lead role which could include time as a trainer, mentor, project lead, or other role providing work direction to others.
High school diploma/GED with ten (10) years of experience.
Associate's degree with eight (8) years of experience.
Bachelor’s degree or higher with six (6) years of experience.
Master’s degree or higher with four (4) years of experience
