Summary
Tabor Academy in Marion, MA seeks a proven, dedicated, and enthusiastic coach to lead its rowing program. The Head Rowing Coach will collaborate with the coaching staff, recruit rowers nationwide, oversee the fleet of racing shells and all rowing programming. This position offers a motivated and competitive individual a unique opportunity to collaborate with program partners within and beyond the rowing and school community to carry out the vision and leadership of Tabor’s rowing program while ensuring the academic success of our student-athletes. The Head Rowing Coach will promote a strong, healthy team culture and the pursuit of excellence both on and off the water. The rowing program leader should have principles that align with the school’s values and the athletic department mission. The head coach will have a clear vision for the future of the program and work collaboratively with Tabor colleagues in all areas of school life to achieve that. The successful candidate will report to the Director of Co-Curricular and Athletic Program.
There is the possibility for classroom teaching and broader boarding school responsibilities, as well. The combination of these additional responsibilities is based on the school’s needs and the strengths of the person occupying the role. This role could be full-time or part-time depending on the circumstance of the candidate.
Success in this role will entail:
Grow the Tabor’s current girls’ and boys’ rowing program into a nationally recognized and competitive program
Develop and execute a 5-year plan to achieve this goal
Develop and lead programming for all levels of rowers
Manage and develop approximately 6 program coaches
Help recruit effective coaches when needed
Oversee the purchase and management of the school’s rowing-related equipment in coordination with the Director of Co-Curricular and Athletic Programming
Help manage the school’s rowing facility with the support of facilities and marine facilities staff, and help to find a potential secondary site for Tabor Rowing
Develop and lead a 12-month cycle of programming, including off-season training, racing schedules, post-season racing opportunities, select club interaction, sports psychology, nutrition, and learn-to-row activities with the support of other professionals as appropriate
Coach whichever level of boats that best support the program
Recruit high-potential rowers from the current student body
Collaborate with Admissions in recruiting potential rowers in prospective pool
Establish and maintain beneficial relationships with club programs, for both athletes and coaches
Facilitate athletes’ recruitment to college and develop relationships with college coaches for this purpose
Collaborate with other faculty and staff to advance the experience and outcomes for rowers and coxswains
Align with the School’s mission, leadership, overall strategy, and culture

Possess a high degree of cultural competency and demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and perspectives
Team player with strong customer-centered communication skills and a detail-oriented mindset
Eagerness and ability to work with adolescents for their benefit, building their confidence and being a part of boarding community.
Convey patience, empathy, enthusiasm, and optimism in their work with adolescents and colleagues
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and other job-related software
Possess excellent interpersonal, communication (writing, listening, speaking), and organizational skills, and exhibit the ability to interact and work effectively with students, parents, faculty, and other employees.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team to establish and build effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and parents
Qualifications:
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
Preferred: Substantial experience in high-performance junior, collegiate, and/or international rowing as a coach, preferably also as an athlete
