Summary
Tabor Academy seeks a full-time Learning Specialist, ideally with background in sciences and mathematics, who will work with the Director of Learning Support in the ASSIST Learning Center to provide individualized and/or small group tailored support to students with a variety of learning needs. This individual will also work in collaboration with the Director Learning Support to develop and manage academic programming and resources that help further ASSIST’s mission in encouraging students to foster a growth mindset and work towards becoming strong self-advocates in navigating their learning experience through skill-based strategies and teaching. The ASSIST Learning Center teaches strategies for organizing and prioritizing assignments, managing time, improving study skills through active learning strategies, in addition to providing tutorial support in specific content areas when needed. Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Learning Support, the Learning Specialist will foster a positive, structured, and caring environment, while also providing direct support and instruction to identified students. As a residential school, Tabor considers the work of faculty broadly, and we engage with students both during and beyond the academic day. Faculty at Tabor can expect to contribute two seasons in the co-curricular and/or athletic program and to be responsible for weekly evening and monthly weekend supervisory duties. This position can include housing.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Take the lead on providing tutorial support in sciences, biology, chemistry, and/or physics preferred, and in mathematics, all levels from Algebra 1 to Calculus preferred.
Evaluate the individual academic needs of each student referred to ASSIST to determine the most appropriate support intervention.
Provide targeted support in the areas of time management, organization, and effective learning strategies applied to academic content in both individual and small group settings.
Provide support in the writing process, including getting started and completing writing assignments, research skills, outlining, and managing issues of procrastination and perfectionism.
Maintain notes in the ASSIST database and provide ongoing communication with the Director of Learning Support, advisors, faculty members, students, and families.
Track student growth with progress monitoring.
Follow up with students and advisors about missed appointments and rescheduling appointments, as needed.
Attend team meetings for specific students and other students at risk, as needed.
Experience working with students with learning disabilities.
Support teaching faculty by offering resources, assistance, advice, and training to enable faculty to better meet the needs of all learners.

Qualifications
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
Preferred: Experience in residential oversight and/or secondary or post-secondary instruction.
