The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) seeks a Director-Standards to lead APTA’s Standards Program and serve as the resource within the association on technical issues and best practices. The Director manages the standards-generation process, including oversight of staff and supporting consultants, prioritization of the standards projects, development of metrics to guide the standards program, and interfaces with the working groups and policy and planning committees involved in generating and maintaining standards. In addition, APTA periodically seeks grants from Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) under federal standards programs. If any such grants are awarded, the Director will be responsible for leading and managing the related work.
Duties include (but are not limited to the following): Bachelor’s degree or higher, coupled with a minimum of five years’ experience in transit or standards development. Prior involvement in APTA’s standards program or other national standards development organizations is a plus. Must have excellent leadership and program management skills, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with people and organizations as well as work independently and under pressure, meeting multiple deadlines. Must be willing to travel to support committee meetings and conferences.
